Space Startup, a company I chose to balance career growth and family life

-First of all, please tell us about your responsibilities.

I am currently responsible for more of the company’s labor operations, and I plan to focus mainly on HR in the future. I am balancing the two areas in my daily work.

-What is your background like before joining WARPSPACE?

I started my career in sales for a pharmaceutical company, and then I gained experience at a recruiting firm in order to advance my career, first by handling entry-level positions, and then after I had a baby, I moved to the administration department and worked while raising my child.

-How did you get involved in the human resources field?

When I was looking for a job as a new graduate, I met a recruiter and strongly felt that recruiting is something that determines the first impression of a company, and that is how I became interested in human resources work.

-What made you decide to change jobs at WARPSPACE?

The main reasons were that I wanted to further develop my career as an expert in the administrative department and that I wanted to work in an environment where I can be proud of the fact that I am going to support these people.

I also wanted to work in an environment where I could be proud that I would be the one to support these people. Since the work in the administrative department is not very different in any industry, I decided to work at WARPSPACE because I wanted to work in a place where I could feel I was supporting the company, and I was also interested in working in the space industry.

-Isn’t it difficult to balance the work and child-raising?

WARPSPACE promotes remote work, so I can work with my child, leave the office as necessary, and back to work. This is good to keep the balance between job and family relationships.

-Do you have any difficulties in looking after both labor and recruitment?

I am careful to keep a balance between the two. In the area of labor-related tasks, there are fixed deadlines, and it is clear what needs to be done by when. On the other hand, the recruitment area is more dynamic and requires flexibility in terms of time. There are also strong sales elements, such as communicating with applicants, which I can handle on my own, but the way of thinking is completely different from that of labor functions, and it is difficult to find the right balance between the two.

-As you are in charge of HR, what do you hope to achieve in the future?

I would like to devote my experience to the growth of the company. In the process, I really feel the need to take care of employees and make it easy for them to work.

If you don’t like your company, the members probably won’t enjoy it either, so I would be happy if I can help make it a company where you can proudly say, “I work for this team”.

As for my image, I think it is important for the administrative department to view its own employees as customers. If you simply say, “No, it’s not allowed because of these rules,” whether it is labor, accounting, or hiring, it is easy to create a rift with the frontline side, as if to say, “Our labor team really doesn’t understand what we’re talking about.”

Of course, there are some laws and systems that must be followed by the company, but if you respond to requests and consultations from members by saying, “We can’t do this, but we can do it up to this point,” and make it easier for everyone to work together.

-I would like to create a position where I can be consulted by the team about my work environment.

Right, so I try to make it easy for them to ask. But at the same time, I also try not to take care of them too much. Those of us who deal with paperwork and procedures on a daily have more knowledge and can do it for them if we want to, but that would mean that employees who cannot stand on their own will grow up. I consider it my challenge to be open to consultation, but not too much.

-Is there anything you would like people who are interested in WARPSPACE to know about you from your HR position?

It may be a simple expression, but I think the best part is that everyone in the company is kind and tolerant. WARPSPACE has a wide range of generations compared to the general startups, and I want the members to enjoy the differences among themselves. So I would like people who can think about how to bridge the differences between people to join the company, rather than saying, “We can’t understand each other because we are from different generations”. And for those who join, everyone is very kind, so I hope they will not hesitate to ask questions.

-Finally, what is the “Compass of Behavior” that you value the most?

05. Resilient spirit” is the one I found the most important. I myself have three children, and fortunately, they are all doing well, which makes me very happy, but when I think about it from a career perspective, there were many things I had to give up. So, for me, working at WARPSPACE is also a “re-challenge”.

When I wanted to further my career and deepen my knowledge and become a specialist, I wanted to challenge myself and take revenge in the space venture field, so I decided on a Resilient spirit.

We are startup company started as a project in University of Tsukuba, 2011. We will provide the optical telecommunication service with LEO Sat operator by 2023.
