New staff Introduction
※This article is written in May 2020.
My name is Hitoshi (the bottom left). I’ve started intern at Warpspace for business development since this March, and decided to officially join from beginning of May. Meaning, it’s my first career after graduation, but funny thing is my major in university was totally different from space, even not physics.
I’m writing this article for 3 reasons,
1: Remember my current feeling
2: Connect the students those who major in non-scientific field with space
3: Declare my aspiration
1: Remember my current feeling
As mentioned before, this is the start of my career, even though, never, ever thought that I work in space industry. Because what I’ve learned is liberal arts such as, human history, religion, socialogy, economic and etc, etc.
What struck me by the way is, “How this social system was built? How capitalism spread over the world?”, something like that. Anyway, I’m not familiar with the scientific field at all.
There’re 2 questions I’m often asked, “Oh, your background is aerospace?” or, “Why space?”. It’s hard question for me as well, but, mainly 2 reasons.
①Curiosity
②The scalability of space industry
①Curiosity
Whatever the topic is, I love making “unknown known”. So all the time, I’ve been following my curiosity.
One day, a friend of mine introduced the CEO of Warpspace to me and said, “This company started recruiting for business position. Don’t you apply?”, and I said, “Yes!”, this is how I met this company.
②The scalability of space industry
At the time I met CEO, I had no idea what space is, what space business is, and of course what I could do. But what he told me was, how space industry improves our daily life, how deep potential it has, to make our future better one, and is regarded as huge market, not study object.
These are the main factors made me decide to work in space industry,
BUT, honestly, I always have a serious anxious feeling to dive into the unknown field (Why not!). Besides, economy is stopping…(COVID-19)
2: Connect the students those who major in non-scientific field with space
You might think, “Scientific or technology background would be necessary to work in space industry”. In my opinion, it’s not wrong, but true. To solve the “crazy equation” is none of my business, though I have to catch up with the domain knowledge(deep,,,), but it’s same as other industries.
Well, let’s take a company, people have different roles each other, some are responsible for developing software, then the others are for sales, promotion, design, whatever. My responsibility for now is corporate tasks, but in the long term, will sale the service, marketing, and any kind of business staff (if I could).
The point is, “Space industry is not that special. Space is just tool, so are any other technologies”. This is the view that I want to share with the people, especially students who are not familiar with space or science. And hopefully, wanna be a role model for such people.
3: Declare my aspiration
I’m still not sure what I can do, but there’s just one thing I believe.
Any kind of Japanese organizations, including public/private sector and academic can be leader in the space industry. Because “peaceful-purpose based” is the key and that’s what we Japanese have been doing after the war.
Though it’s impossible to stop military use in other nations, I believe that Japan could lead the New Space era. To make it happen, building cross-cutting relationship is the most important thing. Therefore, I wanna be a media between different field to combine them.
In the end, let me quote my favorite word from my favorite comedian,
The reality is always right. You can’t make any change if you keep blaming the environment or the era you are, the reality is fact. Observe it, analyze it, then make sure what you have to do.
Sometimes I feel like to say, “Goddamn COVID!!!”, but keep this word on my mind, and try to do what to do. Thanks for reading, Hitoshi.
