In this article, you’ll see the summary of space industry, i.g, assignment, strategy based on the document published officially.
The Cabinet Office published the document called, [Space Industry Vision 2030] in 2017. It summarizes about the assignment, the strategy to accelerate the industry, the use case of the technologies, etc. etc. Here, I’ll share some points.

①Current situation in Japan;

In the space industry, “private-sector-led” is accelerating in the world, but meanwhile, the government based project is still mainstream in Japan. Behind this situation, there are couple reasons why the industry is not expanding.

First reason of all, the lack of opportunity to try something new, meaning, people are not likely to invest the risk money because they want return in short term. So projects intended for R&D are less likely to success, or even fail the fundraising phase. In the meanwhile, once investors accept the volatility to invest the immature industry or technologies, it’s possible to expand quickly.

So what government aims for is, Double Growth by 2030, adding the value by combining the high-tech like AI/IoT with space sector. And of course, build the ecosystem which has high accessibility to the risk money.

②The issues in space industry;

lack of human resources, the literacy to use satellite data is limited, the professional are not enough to process the data, but in the first place, most people don’t understand the utility of space activity. And that’s the cause that risk money is not such an active.

③The trend of space industry;

shifting from government-led to private sectors by downsizing the rocket and satellites which enables the startup-company develop in quite low cost compared to before. Moreover, launch the EO satellites and satellite constellation project, utilize the satellite data for monitoring of infrastructure, disaster, agriculture, logistics, and insurance & finance, etc.

④The government policy;

To increase opportunities to collaborate with other industries and organize the ideal environment, support the startup-companies by adding the risk money, and above all, industrialize the space as high value-added field through AI or any kind of technologies.

⑤Concluding; (this part is not government statement)

Japanese government does understand how important the space industry is in several points of view such as, national defense, to create the new business opportunities, and more than anything, for the future generation.
We have a lot of issues to attack quickly, like climate change. And all we know that space technologies will directly contribute the issues we face.
So, we Warpspace are willing to lead the healthy prosperity of space industry as a telecommunication carrier.
